How to Get Abs as Strong as a Soda Can! (TEST YOURSELF)

I don’t care how strong you think you are, if your abs and core aren’t strong enough you are never going to be as strong as you could be. In this video, I show you how to get abs that are as strong as a soda can. Using a prop as a visual, you will see just how important it is to have a strong set of abs, obliques and back muscles in order to maintain the stability that is needed to perform all of your other lifts safely.

When you realize that the entire body is a kinetic chain, you quickly see how even the slightest weakness along the chain can cause the whole thing to be rendered weak. This happens most often in the center of mass, or in the case of adults, in the area of the pelvis. Once you have a compromised core either through weak abs or an injured or weak lower back, you open the door to many breakdowns in your form and the health of your other lifts.

Here I show you how an intact soda can (representing an adequately trained core) can resist rotational forces and compressive forces very well. This is because the integrity of the can is in place and the structure is able to withstand external forces without any issues. A weight plate is balanced on top of the can to show you how this could apply during a squat. If your core is strong you can balance the weight on the can without it collapsing under the weight of the plate.

Make a single dent in the can however, representing a core that is weak, and you immediately become susceptible to crushing under the weight of that same plate. The stability was compromised. The strength of your abs was debilitated. This is exactly what happens on a larger scale when you attack your big lifts like squats, deadlifts, overhead presses or really any other lift that puts you on your feet where they should be.

Strong abs and a stable core are going to go a long way to not only keeping you safe during your training but to getting you a six pack as well.
